Pisces is the seventh constellation in the Zodiac.
In the ancient zodiac, each sign shows something about the victory of the Coming One’s victory. Pisces shows two fish tied together with a long band. Today, modern horoscopes say that people born between February 20 and March 20 are Pisces. These horoscopes claim to tell you about love, money, health, and personality.
But what did Pisces really mean long ago?
Why are two fish tied together in this picture? To answer this question, we need to look at what God may have been showing through the stars from the beginning of time.
In Virgo we saw that the Bible states that God Himself made the zodiac constellations as Signs going back to the beginning of mankind. In this ancient astrology of the stars each chapter was for all people. It is worth learning about how the teaching of Pisces relates to you, even if you are ‘not’ a Pisces in the modern horoscope.

Constellation Pisces in the Stars
Look at the stars that form Pisces. It’s hard to see two fish just from the stars themselves. Can you see anything resembling two fishes held together by a long band in this photo?

Even connecting the stars in ‘Pisces’ with lines do not make the fishes obvious. How did early astrologers think up two fishes from these stars?

This picture of two fish connected by a band has existed for thousands of years. In Egypt’s Dendera Temple (over 2000 years old), we can see the two fish in drawings. The image of the two Pisces fishes circled below in red. You can also see in the sketch on the side that the band binds them together.

Below is a traditional image of Pisces that astrology has used as far back as we know.

What is the meaning of the two fishes?
And the band fastened to their two tails?

The Original Meaning of Pisces
Earlier constellations help us understand Pisces. In Capricorn, we saw a goat whose death brought life. In Aquarius, we saw water being poured out on a fish. That fish showed the many people who would receive the “Living Water”—a symbol of new life from God. This promise goes back to Abraham when God told him:
“All peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”
Genesis 12:3
“And through your seed all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me”
Genesis 22:18
These many people who receive life and are redeemed through the Coming Servant are shown as two groups:
- The Tribes of Israel (Jacob’s family)
- The Gentiles (people from all other nations)
Isaiah prophesied:
he says: “It is too small a thing for you to be my servant to restore the tribes of Jacob and bring back those of Israel I have kept. I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.”
Isaiah 49:6
This is why there are two fish in Pisces. They represent both groups of people who follow Jesus.
Jesus told his disciples:
“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.”
Matthew 4:19
The very first followers of Jesus used the symbol of the fish to show they belonged to him. Here are photos from ancient catacombs.

The two fishes of Pisces, the tribes of Jacob and those of other nations following Jesus have equal life given to them by him. The Band also holds them equally in bondage.
The Band – Passing Bondage
The two fish are alive but tied together by a band. This band means they are still held back, even though they have spiritual life. The band shows the bondage (trouble and suffering) that followers of Jesus face today.
But there is hope. The constellation Aries (a Ram) is seen stepping toward the band. Aries represents the One who will set us free.

This is the experience of all followers of Jesus today. The Bible says that we suffer now with decay and death, but something better is coming – the Day of freedom:
Bondage & Groaning Now
I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. 19 For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. 20 For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God. 22 We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. 23 Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies. 24 For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? 25 But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.
Romans 8:18-25
We groan now, but we wait for a time when our bodies will be made new. This hope keeps us going.
redemption is Coming…
We wait for the redemption of our bodies from death. Someday, Jesus will return and give us new bodies that will never die. This is what the Bible promises:
50 I declare to you, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51 Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— 52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53 For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. 54 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.” 55 “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1
Corinthians 15: 50-57
The Band around the fish of Pisces shows that we are still suffering now, but we are also waiting for our freedom (for the coming of Aries to set us free). That freedom is coming when Jesus returns.
Pisces is not about your daily luck. It is a Sign showing that Jesus gives us a new spiritual life now. One day, He will grant us Living Water and He will free us from all suffering, trouble, and death.
Pisces Horoscope in the Sacred Writings
The word “horoscope” comes from the Greek word horo, which means “hour” or “time.” The Bible talks about special times in our lives—hours of testing and trouble. Pisces is the “hour” of life and hope, but also of struggle.
Jesus warned:
They will put you out of the synagogue; in fact, the hour (horo) is coming when anyone who kills you will think they are offering a service to God. 3 They will do such things because they have not known the Father or me. 4 I have told you this, so that when their hour (horo) comes you will remember that I warned you about them. I did not tell you this from the beginning because I was with you,
John 16:2-4
But He also said:
“When you are brought before synagogues, rulers and authorities, do not worry about how you will defend yourselves or what you will say, 12 for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that hour (horo) what you should say.
Luke 12:11-12
We live in the hour of Aquarius and also the hour of Pisces. Aquarius brought the water (Spirit of God) to bring life to the fishes.
We are only in the middle of the Zodiac Story and the final Sagittarius victory is still in the future.
Right now (in this hour), we still face trouble, judgement and death, like Jesus warned us. The bands holding the fish are real, but even as the bands hold us we still have life. The Holy Spirit is with us, teaching and guiding us, even in hard times.
Welcome to the hour of Pisces.
Your Pisces Horoscope Reading from the ancient Zodiac
You and I can apply the Pisces horoscope reading today with the following.
Pisces horoscope declares you must go through many hardships to enter the Kingdom. In fact some common traits of your journey to that Kingdom are troubles, hardships, distresses and even death. Don’t let this get you down. It is actually to your benefit as it can develop three characteristics in you: faith, hope and love. The bands of Pisces can do this in you – if you do not lose heart. Though outwardly you may be wasting away, yet inwardly you are being renewed day by day. This is because you have the firstfruits of the Spirit in you. So even as you groan inwardly as you wait eagerly for the redemption of your body, recognize that these real problems are working for your good if they make you compatible with the King and His Kingdom.
Keep yourself going with this Truth: In his great mercy The King has given you new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when The King is revealed.
In Summary:
You will go through many hard times before entering God’s Kingdom. But don’t be discouraged. These hardships can help you grow in faith, hope, and love. Even though your body may feel weak, your spirit is growing stronger each day.
This is because God has given you a new birth into a living hope through Jesus’ resurrection. You have a promise that can never be taken away. It is kept safe in heaven.
You may suffer now for a little while, but this will show how real and strong your faith is. Your faith is more precious than gold and will bring praise and honour when Jesus returns.
